Hello Sir/Madam,

So, you have your product ready to go. You have done your surveys and know the price, position and presentation required; what next?

Direct or indirect marketing?

Direct Marketing is where you act to get an immediate response from the public rather than a general promotion. This is the world of Cold Calling, Telemarketing, Presentation, Demonstrations, Faxing and the like. An advert on TV for soap powder is part of a long term strategy to persuade you to use Tide rather than OMO but the ad for the 60’s music collection or the Dustbuster 2000 with a call to action, a discount for the first 20 callers and a phone number flashing on the screen screaming for you to CALL NOW! illustrates the difference.

The major plus points about direct marketing are;
• Immediacy – the phones can be ringing within minutes.
• Accountability – You know exactly how much bang you got for your buck, 30,000 faxes out,

90 calls in, 45 sales. Cost $6000, Sales $10,000, Margin $4000.
• Test and Measure – Ad not pulling? Design a new one, test again.

Next week the first Direct approach – Direct Mail.
